In 1954, in the then newly independent country of India, 1954, the need for the development of indigenous industry was a dire one. The dream they had about a self-reliant and self-providing country birthed various Public Sector Undertakings. One of these was Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), which came a long way since those times. Thanks to the far-sighted vision of the pioneers, as well as the dedication and hard work of the devoted employees, the support and faith of the current customers and the Government of India remains strong. Products

BEL India had humble beginnings back in 1954. They were set up in association with CSF, France in order to manufacture basic communication equipment. Today, BEL produces various of state-of-the-art equipment in the areas like Defense Communication, Naval Systems, Radars, C4I Systems, Weapon Systems, Homeland Security, Telecom & Broadcast Systems, Tank Electronics, Electronic Warfare, Electro-Optics, Professional Electronic Components, and Solar Photovoltaic Systems. The company also provides turnkey system solutions. Their civilian-oriented products are Electronic Voting Machines, Tablet PCs, solar-powered traffic signals, and Access Control Systems.

BEL India started with a single Unit in Jalahalli, Bangalore, and has since established a presence across the country with eight other Units: Ghaziabad, Pune, Machilipatnam, Panchkula, Kotdwara, Navi Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Each of these Units has a specific mix of products and customer focus. Countrywide, BEL India set up a sprawling network of offices and service centers, and two overseas offices, on in New York and the other one in Singapore.

BEL India was started to make specialized electronic equipment for the Indian Defense Services. Although this is still the primary focus, they have an important presence in the civilian market. Today, the company exports some products and services to many countries. Great focus has always been put into the Research and Development sectors, while the company also partnered as a production agency with different DRDO labs.

BEL India is not just a successful business story, as it is an organization that cares for the people and society. The company took part in numerous CSR activities and still continues to do them with the same passion and commitment. They have educational institutions and a special school for the mentally challenged children. The generous company set up multiple hospitals, fine arts clubs, and sports facilities alike. These initiatives, as well as many others, ensure a good quality of life for the BEL India employees and their families. Some facilities mentioned serve the local communities, too. At the moment, BEL India concentrates on the promotion of education, sanitation, rural development, health care, employment, enhancing of vocational skills, and environmental sustainability.

Each of the BEL Units fully promotes ‘Clean and green’. Their concern for the environment is high, and visible in the greenery of all Units. Some of the initiatives and activities they employ are afforestation, effluent treatment, water recycling, biogas generation and use, rainwater harvesting, green buildings, wind, and solar energy power plants.
