Electronic warfare systems are one of the major divisions of BEL, a giant in electronics and defense military equipment from India. This major company specializes in all sorts of radar and communications equipment as well. In this article, we will go over different types of systems of electronic warfare.

1. Radar Electronic Support Measures (ESM) Systems

ESM for Submarines

ESM for Submarines

This submarine system operates in the range of frequency bands from D to J, and is capable of intercepting, detecting and identifying radar signals. In addition, it displays active emitters, like RF transmissions from radars on submarines. It is a wide open system in frequency and space and provides a high probability of interceptions. In addition, it has sufficient operational sensitivity, especially because the higher frequency bands achieve high ranges of detection. Last but not least, this ESM provides threat warnings based on the system library, while the system also handles pulse, CW, chirp and other exotic and special signals. Other features include:

Wide open spectral and spatial domains, high sensitivity and parameter accuracy ELINT, extensive BITE facility, large programmable threat library for radar modes, automatic tracking of multiple emitters, wide-open receivers with high probability of interception and sensitivity, data recording and replay options, single operator controlled system, a user friendly MMI, and AHU capable of withstanding external pressure up to 60bar.

EW Suite for Fighter Aircrafts

EW Suite for Fighter Aircrafts

This is a unified suite with both warning and jamming options. The radar warning is 1 – 18 GHz, and it is based on a digital receiver. It has a wideband receiver (100% by HPOI Receiver), and selectable narrow band receiver options. Dynamic range is 65 dB, while the DOA Accuracy offers coarse and fine DF modes. Regarding the second option, the suite has DFRM based jamming of 6-18 GHz and active phased array (APA) steering, with narrow beams for accuracy/pin pointing threat jamming.  The APA is based with Solid State TR Modules. Finally, it offers various mutually exclusive ECM technique generations and multiple threat handling.

2. ELINT / COMINT / SIGINT

Direction Finding System

Direction Finding System

The modern direction finding and intelligence gathering system is designed to collect, process and produce COMINT information, for the purpose of creating real-time pictures. It gives out a continuous and dynamic flow of COMINT real-time intelligence data, while able to operate in the battlefield. This DF system supports a wide range of different operations, from low-intensity conflict and peace support operations to full-scale war missions and battles. Other top specs include:

Communication EW system in standalone and integrated mode, high DF accuracy, findings of LF information quickly in integrated mode, secured point to point communication in integrated mode, broadcasting of the LF information to foot soldiers, high-speed scan, detection of FF, FH and burst signals, location fixing on raster maps, database for storage and retrieval of system status, and mission management and report generation.

3. Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems

EW Suite for Large Warships

EW Suite for Large Warships

This is a ship-borne EW suite with wide-open ESM function in C-K bands and ECM in I-K bands. The system has ESM and ECM functions and is practically a naval version of the IEW capable of interception, measurement and jamming, with quick reaction times for ESM and ECM. Other features are:

ESM system with advanced features, phase comparison for DOA measurement, wide dynamic range, excellent parameter accuracy, high probability of interceptions, ECM with high ERP, built with multibeam jammer, BITE up to PCB level, modular design for easy maintenance, and a user-friendly MMI.

4. Jammers

VIP Protection RCIED Jammer

VIP Protection RCIED Jammer

This convoy jammer system is designed to mute any and all remotely controlled improvised explosive devices (RCIEDs) that are working in V/UHF bands, as well as GSM, Ex GSM, CDMA, 3G, Wi-Fi, etc. The system also jams all vulnerable bands of the spectrum where the probability of terrorists / anti-national activities are high. This system uses various different jamming techniques. Other features include:

Ultra-wide frequency coverage, wideband jamming in split bands, user-friendly operation, VSWR and thermal protection, over voltage and under voltage protection, and an AC/DC converter for charging.
